A classic family favorite, spaghetti and meatballs are a great dish to prepare when friends come over to play because most kids enjoy this kind of food. With some assistance, children may easily prepare the meatballs and sauce on their own. You can serve the meatballs with any kind of pasta you like, including tagliatelle, spaghetti, and other shapes. Without a doubt, one of our favorite Italian dishes ever.
Ingredients:
For the meatballs:
- 500g of lean beef mince
- two smashed garlic cloves
- One handful of brand-new breadcrumbs
- Black pepper and salt that has just been ground
- One beaten egg yolk
- Twist-up of vegetable oil
- Twist-up of vegetable oil
- One onion, chopped finely
- Two smashed garlic cloves and one 600g bottle Passata
- Two teaspoons of dried oregano
- To serve, top 400g of spaghetti with Parmigiano-Reggiano
- A little chopped parsley.
Method:
To make the meatballs:
- Place the breadcrumbs, garlic, minced beef, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Add the egg yolk and thoroughly combine everything.
- Split the mixture into eight balls of the same size.
- In a large frying pan with a heavy bottom, heat the oil. Add the meat balls and fry them gently for 4 to 5 minutes, or until they are browned all over. Remove the meatballs, thoroughly drain, and set aside to await the completion of the sauce.
To make the sauce:
- Fill a big sauté pan with hot oil.
- Fry the garlic and onion together until they become tender but not browned.
- Add spice to taste and stir in the passata and oregano.
- When the meatballs are thoroughly cooked and the sauce has thickened, add the meatballs, cover the pan, and simmer for 40 to 45 minutes.
To cook the pasta:
- As directed on the package, cook the pasta in a large saucepan of boiling, salted water for 10 to 12 minutes, or until it is soft but still "al dente." Drain thoroughly.
- Along with the spaghetti, serve the meatballs and tomato sauce with a dash of Parmesan cheese and parsley.
TOP TIP FOR MAKING SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS
The tomato sauce gains a hint of sweetness from the addition of one teaspoon of sugar. Consider using two 400g cans of chopped tomatoes in place of the passata; this will make the sauce somewhat less expensive and give it a little more bite.
